EAU27: A Congress beyond Europe
The EAU’s Annual Congress is increasingly taking an international character, both in the research it attracts from around the world as well as in the nationalities of the abstract presenters and faculty.
Looking at our most recent Annual Congress, EAU26 in London, abstract submissions and accepted abstracts reflected strong international participation, with considerable contributions from countries outside Europe. The biggest non-European submitters were researchers from (in alphabetical order) China, India, Japan, Taiwan and The United States.
Looking at congress delegates, over the past three editions the ratio of European registrations (just over 70%) has proven to be remarkably consistent. The congress’s audience is clearly still in Europe and the surrounding regions.
- Abstract submission is currently open! Read the rules and regulations and submit yours before 1 November 2026 (23:59 CET).
On the subject of research, EAU27 will again feature a day-long EAU Lab programme, organised in conjunction with the EAU Section of Urological Research. In addition to two (to be confirmed) “EAU Lab”-themed Abstract sessions, there are two 90-minute sessions that will explore the basic research that underpins practice-changing recommendations for the clinical urologist.
Urology Beyond Europe
The EAU also welcomes non-European or international urological societies to co-host sessions on the first day of EAU27. “Urology Beyond Europe” sessions have long history at the Annual Congress. Typically they feature chairs and speakers representing both the EAU and the (inter)national society in question.
These sessions offer a special platform for ‘local’ speakers and researchers, and a way to invite international experts to speak to a country or region-specific audience. Often these sessions highlight topics that are unique to the country in question, for instance certain urological conditions that are more prevalent outside of Europe, or operating with less-advanced technological assistance.
Currently, 14 of these sessions are planned to be held in Amsterdam, though this number might fluctuate in the coming months as more (inter)national urological societies confirm their participation. They are an essential element of the Annual Congress’s international character. All EAU27 delegates are of course welcome to attend these sessions if they find the speakers or topics interesting!
