Visa requirements, passport validity and invitation letter

All visitors from outside the UK and Ireland require either a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the United Kingdom. Requirements depend on your nationality and the purpose of your visit. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, please consult your nearest British Embassy or Consulate, or visit the official UK government website: www.gov.uk/visa.

Delegates must complete their event registration before applying for a visa or ETA. Once registered, you may contact the EAU Registration Department to request a letter of invitation.

Please note that visa or ETA applications can take time to process. We strongly recommend applying well in advance to ensure approval before the congress begins. Be sure to check with your local embassy or consulate which documents are required in your specific case, as requirements may vary, even for delegates from the same country.

Passport validity requirements

  • For entry into the United Kingdom: your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay. The United Kingdom does not require six months of validity beyond your travel dates, nor does it impose restrictions on how recently your passport was issued.
  • For travellers departing from or transiting through the Schengen Area (e.g. living in or connecting via Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Rome, etc.): your passport must also meet Schengen rules when you leave the Schengen Area to travel to the United Kingdom. These rules are:

    • Your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years at the time of entry into Schengen.

    • Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date you leave the Schengen Area.

  • These Schengen rules apply regardless of whether you are a Schengen resident or only transiting, and they are checked at your point of departure.
